ORIEN KUANG

Speaker | Educator Challenging How Society Understands Children

Much of What Adults Believe About Children Is Wrong — And Children Are Paying the Price.

Orien Kuang is an educator, founder, and thought leader whose work challenges some of society’s deepest misconceptions about childhood, human development, and the relationship between adults and children.

After spending more than a decade working directly with hundreds of children and families while building My World Mandarin Nature School, she began recognizing a pattern few adults notice:

Many of the struggles children face are not caused by children themselves. They are created by adults fundamentally misunderstanding how children learn, communicate, develop, and regulate themselves.

Through years of direct observation and hands-on work, Orien has developed a distinct philosophy around emotional regulation, child behavior, attention development, language acquisition, and the invisible ways adults unintentionally create unnecessary struggles for children.

Her work offers a radically different framework for understanding what children truly need in order to thrive — one that challenges much of what modern parenting, education, and society currently believe.

Signature Talks

Much of what society believes about children is fundamentally false. Orien challenges conventional wisdom and offers a radically different understanding of child development, behavior, emotional growth, and the adult-child relationship.

Children Are Rarely the Problem — Adults Create Most Behavioral Problems

Most behavioral struggles do not begin with children. They begin when adults fundamentally misunderstand what children are communicating, then respond in ways that unintentionally create the very problems they later try to correct.

The More Adults Control Children, The More Children Resist

Well-intentioned adults often overwhelm children with excessive expectations, constant correction, and unnecessary control. The result is predictable: resistance, power struggles, and escalating conflict adults mistakenly blame on the child.

Tantrums Should Not Happen — Adults Miss the Signals Long Before Emotional Breakdown Occurs

Emotional dysregulation rarely appears without warning. Tantrums are often the final stage of a process adults failed to recognize much earlier. The real question is not how to stop tantrums, but why adults missed the warning signs in the first place.

“Terrible Twos” Is Largely an Adult-Created Phenomenon

Children are not suddenly becoming difficult at age two. Conflict emerges when adults fail to understand what children are developmentally asking for and respond with expectations children were never prepared to meet.

Stop Interrupting Children — Adults Quietly Destroy Attention Span

Attention is not something children naturally have or lack. It is something adults either protect or repeatedly damage. Constant interruption, overstimulation, unnecessary redirection, and adult impatience quietly erode a child’s ability to focus.

Most Parenting Advice Optimizes for Adult Convenience, Not Child Development

Much of modern parenting advice is designed to make adult life easier: faster compliance, easier routines, fewer disruptions. But what helps adults in the short term often works directly against the emotional and developmental needs of the child.

We Do Not Raise Children — We Raise Future Adults

The goal of childhood is not obedience. It is developing emotional strength, sound judgment, resilience, independence, and the internal capacity to live a meaningful life.

“Be Inclusive” Is Fake — Real Reconciliation Requires Understanding Difference Deeply

Inclusion without understanding is performative. Real reconciliation requires far more than surface-level acceptance. It demands that we fundamentally rethink how we understand difference, belonging, and what genuine human understanding actually requires.

Core Philosophy

Children are rarely the problem.

Adults often misunderstand development, misread behavior, interrupt natural learning processes, and unknowingly create unnecessary struggles for the very children they are trying to help.

When adults learn to see children differently, everything changes.
