- AM: 8:30-12:30 various parks.
- Our inquiry-based, experiential curriculum is shaped by the seasons, natural processes, and events in class sites and community, connecting the children to their local environment and giving them an intimate understanding of the natural world around them. Learning emerges organically. Children are given time to seek out activities following their own interests, while teachers ask questions and share their knowledge to extend learning. Throughout the school year, we are using the 24 Chinese solar terms together with Coast Salish seasonal round as a guide as we will explore nature as our environment changes with the seasons.
- PM: 1:00-5:00 indoor and HUGE backyard near Maple Leaf Reservoir Park
- Monday: Baking/cooking Day
- Focus: Warmth, domestic arts, transformation.
- Activity: Children help knead dough, shape rolls, and make bread/muffins or other food for the week’s snacks, including some traditional Chinese food items such as dumplings, Baozi, Chinese pancakes etc., especially around Chinese holidays.
- Tuesday: Crafts & Handwork Day
- Focus: Dexterity, fine motor skills, creating.
- Activity: Projects might include simple sewing, weaving, finger knitting, making felt balls, woodwork or preparing for upcoming seasonal festivals.
- Wednesday: Gardening Day
- Focus: Connection to earth as our provider, and learning the full cycle of food production, and environmental stewartship.
- Activity: Preparing the garden, seasonal work, choosing food to grow, care for the earth and tools etc.
- Thursday: Woodwork Day
- Focus: Form, three-dimensionality, sensory experience.
- Activity: Children work with warm, pliable beeswax or clay to create forms from their imagination or inspired by stories.
- Friday: Wet-on-Wet Watercolor Painting Day
- Focus: Color, flow, feeling, non-representational art.
- Activity: Children paint with primary colors on wet paper, allowing the colors to blend and create new shades, focusing on the experience of color.
